Banjo fire line edit.jpg

As the crew hiked up the ridge, Banjo studied the mountain and recognized its rocky features.  He thought of places he might run to for safety if the fire jumped the line. Something deep inside gave him big-dog courage as they approached the blaze.  Banjo tightened his grip on his Pulaski and when Tex barked the order to start digging, Banjo was the first one to reach mineral soil.

On The Fireline.

Wrango finds himself the senior firefighter after his former crew boss (Badger) has retired from the station.  He begins the wildfire season in the Northern Rockies trying to live up to the reputation of Badger and is faced with the difficult task of training a relatively new crew before what is shaping up as a high action fire season. Wrango’s trouble is just beginning. He is soon introduced to Banjo, the most inexperienced rookie assigned to the crew.  Although Banjo is a hard-headed rookie with attitude, Wrango likes something about him and realizes that he could become a strong member of the Zootown Hotdogs elite fire crew.

Wrango.

The senior member of the Zootown Hotdogs. Wrango has taken over as the crew boss. He has been trained by the best, his old crew boss Badger. The reins are now in his hands as he prepares to train the members of the shaggy Zootown Hotdogs.

Banjo.

The rookie. After traveling the west as a stray, Banjo has found his way to Montana to work for the Zootown Hotdogs. The early training days on the job show Banjo that Hotdoggin’ is hard work. Watch Banjo and the other rookie, Flapjack, untangle the mysteries of wildland fire.

It all began with a simple hike on Mount Sentinel. Well, maybe it began over 25 years back when Brent Ruby developed a goal to research wildland firefighters in their free-range, fireline, high octane world of work and adventure. The tangled paths of research, family, pups, and unrelenting academics all collided in the sleepy little mountain town of Missoula, MT. It is here where the story developed and where it continues. Missoula is where Wrango and Banjo live out their mountain adventures herding unlimited imaginary sheep on Mount Sentinel.
